Our Team
The Christian ministry in our part of Manitoba is a group effort — the clergy play their part, but with all that our congregations do, it’s only a small part! We did think, however, that you’d like to know more about the formal leadership of our parish group:
Our Rector
The Rev’d R. Shane Bengry OSBCn is a Benedictine Canon of the Community of Sts. James & John. Benedictines are known for their attention to worship, the study of scripture (especially the Psalms) and attention to community. Fr. Shane earned a Master of Divinity from the Vancouver School of Theology (vst) in the spring of 2009 and was appointed Rector of our parish September of that same year. He also holds a Diploma of Christian Studies (also from vst) and a Bachelor of Design from the esteemed Emily Carr Institute (now University) of Art & Design in Vancouver.
Fr. Shane was raised in Alberta but lived in Vancouver for fourteen years. He enjoys horseback riding, painting, photography and likes to play the tin whistle. He was awarded the Medal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
Our Deacon and Sacristan
The Rev’d Seán Beahen OSBCn is also a Benedictine Canon of the Community of Sts. James & John. He serves our parish as Deacon. Brother Seán earned a certificate in Education for Ministry from The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee in 2010 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr University in 2009. He enjoys heraldry and celtic music and is an active member of the community. Bro. Seán was raised in the nation’s capital.
Our Lay Reader
John McNeily is a fairly recent immigrant to the Prairies from an Anglican upbringing in Ontario. “I had to come to Manitoba to return to the faith in which I was raised, and from which I had taken a long break,” he says, “I try to make up for the lost time by taking extra care to give back the teaching I received so early.”
